Uffizi and Comics together again

The 17th century drawings and those by the father of graphic novels Will Eisner will be put on display in Palazzo Ducale during the whole festival. This will reinforce the revolutionary collaboration started last year between the famous Florentine museum and the great international event dedicated to the Ninth Art.

By virtue of this agreement, Denis Kitchen - curator of the great American cartoonist Will Eisner - has entrusted Lucca Comics & Games with his self-portrait, in which he portrays himself with one of his most famous creations: the avenger from The Spirit. The aim is to give it to the Uffizi Gallery.

The Uffizi Gallery will symbolically exhibit the cartoon attributed to the 17th century painter from Bologna Agostino Carracci (one of the first masters of caricature, the graphic style preceding comics) in Palazzo Ducale, during Lucca Comics & Games 2022.

A third protagonist will be present in this strongly symbolic exhibition area: the self-portrait of the Master of Comics 2022, the recipient of the prestigious prize awarded every year by Lucca Comics & Games in collaboration with the Uffizi Gallery and reserved for the great names of the Ninth Art. After the event, it too will be included in the Gallery’s collection, in Florence.

Today, director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt, mayor of Lucca Mario Pardini, president of Lucca Crea Francesca Fazzi and director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina opened the special exhibition.
