Kazu Kibuishi
Kazu Kibuishi was born in Tokyo, Japan on April 8th, 1978. When he was just a child, in 1982, he moved to the United States with his mother and brother. He graduated in Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara; then he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He worked in the world of graphic design, architecture and animation.
He was also creator and curator of the comics anthology Explorer and Flight and creator of Webcomic Copper, for seven years. He debuted with a comic miniseries, Daisy Kutter: The Last Train, which was awarded the YALSA Best Books for Young Adults. He also illustrated the covers of the paperback edition for the 15th anniversary of Harry Potter.
His consecration as author and artist arrives in 2008 with the launch of the graphic novel series Amulet, a New York Times bestseller, winner of the ALA Best Book for Young Adults and published in Italy by Il Castoro. A work that has followed for 16 years all his personal and artistic journey, as the pivotal project of his life, vision, and artistic identity if we think that his conception began when he was just 19.
The Amulet series sold more than seven million copies in the United States and Canada, and it was translated in 23 languages all over the world. 16 years after the publication of the first volume of the series, Amulet came to a conclusion with the publication of the ninth book called Amulet: Waverider, on February 6th, 2024, becoming the eighth consecutive New York bestseller of the Amulet series.
The ninth volume will be launched in occasion of the Lucca Comics & Games, in November 2024, completing the Amulet series in Italy too.
