Lucca Comics & Games has always represented a crossroads of different arts, a place where comics, games, cinema, literature and music meet and merge into a single, extraordinary experience.
This year, on Puccini's 100th anniversary, the festival becomes a true opera, inspired by Giacomo Puccini's immortal masterpiece and the concept of chaos theory: The Butterfly Effect.
THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
This theory states that small changes can lead to great revolutions, a theme that perfectly resonates with the innovative and creative spirit of Lucca Comics & Games.
To visually represent the three acts of this unique work, we called a great master, a true Sensei who between anime, video games and fine art embodies a melting pot of cultures and media: Yoshitaka Amano.
Yoshitaka Amano is a worldwide famous Japanese artist, known for his revolutionary work in animation, video games and contemporary art. He began his career in the 70s with Tatsunoko Productions, contributing to iconic series such as Gatchaman and Time Bokan. In the 80s and 90s, he became famous for his illustrations for the Final Fantasy video game series, which earned him international recognition. Amano is also an acclaimed painter and sculptor, with works showcased all over the world.
For The Butterfly Effect, Amano created not just one image, but three, each representing an act in this extraordinary work.
OUVERTURE
The first act, “Ouverture”, marks the festival beginning with the June 26th 2024 press conference. This inaugural moment is dedicated to Giacomo Puccini’s theatre piece “Tosca”.
CRESCENDO
The second act, “Crescendo”, starting with the September 25th 2024 press conference, symbolises the path and the evolution that will bring to the peak of the event. Amano’s work is dedicated to Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”.
FINALE FANTASTICO
The third act, “Finale Fantastico”, is the culmination of the festival itself. In this phase, Amano’s opera reflects the apotheosis of creativity and passion that is Lucca Comics & Games, a triumph of colors, sounds and emotions that concludes this extraordinary experience.
