Benjamin Lacombe

Benjamin Lacombe (Paris, 1982) is one of the New French Illustration’s most celebrated artists. In 2001 he enters l’école Nationale Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs of Paris (ENSAD). During his studies, he works in advertising and animation. At 19 he releases his first comics book. His first book dedicated to children is “Cerise Griotte”, published in France by Seuil and entirely illustrated and written by him at the end of his studies. The book gets then published in the USA thanks to Walker Books and is selected by Time Magazine as one of the 10 best children books released in 2007.

Since then, Benjamin Lacombe has written and illustrated over thirty books, some of which are award winnng and translated in several countries. Between the books published by L’ippocampo, Storie di fantasmi del Giappone, Spriti creature del Giappone and Notre Dame de Paris are some of his bestseller and beloved works.

French illustrator who made his debut with a French comic strip inspired by Japan, returns to Lucca Comics & Games to talk about his passion for the Land of the Rising Sun, which has led to the publication of his latest volumes, Stories of Samurai Women, Curiosities, Spirits and Creatures of Japan and Ghost stories from Japan, all published by L'ippocampo Edizioni.
