Gens D'YS

Since 1993, the a.s.d. (amateur sports association) Gens D’YS represents the typical Irish dance in Italy. Founded by a group of friends, it has become the first Italian Academy dedicated to the Emerald Isle traditional dances. Thanks to the passion and perseverance for Irish dances, the continuous growth and hard work, it is now a branched reality all around Italy, with 28 active sites in 21 Italian cities, 34 instructors and more than 600 students. 

For many years, the Academy has the support of the Irish Embassy in Italy and, since 2011, the one of the Tourism Ireland (which is the official Ambassador). The Gens D’YS Academy teachers keep training and some of them have also obtained the TCRG complete certification from the An Coimisiúm le Rincí Gaelacha (The Irish Dancing Commission).

Within the Academy, the “Compagnia Spettacoli” (Performance Company) was immediately born and, in 1995, it made its debut with its first show. To this day, there are several hundreds of performances in Italy and abroad: from squares to theatres, from stadiums to castles, from the TV to the web, from big international festivals to country ones. The Show Group is always able to thrill its audience, giving emotion as only a traditional, ancestral and constantly evolving dance can do: the Irish one. 

The Gens d’YS will perform on the main stage of Lucca on the 1st of November, in the “Spirits of Folk” show.
