From The Lord of the Rings to Marvel’s Wastelanders

Fantasy

Aided by the publication of the new translation of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien by writer and expert of the Oxford Professor’s work Wu Ming 4, Lucca Comics & Games will host a series of events dedicated to Middle-earth in collaboration with Bompiani and AIST (Associazione Italiana Studi Tolkeniani). The festival will offer in-depth analysis of the new translation together with Wu Ming, but also of the work in general.

The audio book version of The Lord of the Rings will also be the center of the tolkienian celebrations at Lucca Comics & Games thanks to Audible, which will organize 3 events with quizzes and live reading on October 31st and November 1st and 2nd at 3:30 PM in the Auditorium Fondazione Banca Del Monte di Lucca. Caleel and Arianna Craviotto will be the event entertainers on the first 2 days, while at the event on Saturday, November 2ndMassimo Popolizio will be present: actor, stage director and the Italian voice actor who has read the new version of the audio book of Tolkien’s trilogy. Writer and publisher Lucia Troisi will be the moderator.

On Saturday, November 2nd, Marvel’s superheroes fans will be able to take part in the event Supereroi in cuffia (Superheroes through headphones), a live performance of the Italian Audible Original series Marvel’s Wastelanders. (Davide Marzi) will assemble at Lucca Comics & Games to voice the last desperate battle against the evil forces, which will (maybe) put an end to all supervillains' evil plans. An immersive and fascinating live reading will take the audience into the last season of Marvel’s Wastelanders. After that, there will be a presentation of the entire saga in 6 episodes with the actors and Chiara Cecilia Santamaria as moderator.

In Lucca, fans will also find big international names and new faces, without forgetting about local male and female writers. The publishing house Fazi Editore will host Christopher Buehlman, author of The Blacktongue Thief, which will be presented on Saturday, November 2nd at 4:45 PM in the Auditorium Fondazione Banca Del Monte di Lucca.

Mondadori, on the other hand, will feature 3 international fantasy and dystopian writers. From October 30th to November 1st, readers will be able to meet Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman, co-authors of the trilogy Riverside. The authors will be at the center of an event in the Auditorium Fondazione Banca Del Monte di Lucca on Thursday, October 31stat 11:45 AM. From November 1st to November 3rd, Samantha Shannon will be in Lucca. The author of The Priory of the Orange Tree will present her dystopian saga The Bone Season to the festival audience, on Saturday, November 2ndat 2:30 PM in the Auditorium del Suffragio.

For young adult fiction, Mondadori Libri per ragazzi will launch The Color of Revenge, fourth book of the Inkheart series, on the occasion of Lucca Comics & Games. A great return, after the trilogy ended in 2008, that will see the author Cornelia Funkefor the first time in Lucca on Wednesday, October 30th. The presentation of this new novel will take place in the Auditorium Fondazione Banca Del Monte di Lucca at 2:15 PM, with Carmelo Romano, alias Timida libreria del Riccio, as moderator.

Another great return for the French illustrator Rébecca Dautremer, who hasn’t participated in the festival since 2012, and who will be a guest for Rizzoli from October 30th to November 1st. Dautremer will be the main character of an event moderated by Megi Bulla (La biblioteca di Daphne on TikTok) on Friday, November 1st at 10:30 AM in the Auditorium Fondazione Banca Del Monte di Lucca. The French artist will deliver a masterclass on the world of illustration.
