Exhibition - Chōgokin 50th Year

Through a work of research and conservation, three Italian collectors - Piero Delrivo, Marco Olivotto and Fabrizio Modina - the retrospective of Lucca Comics & Games 2024, dedicated to the Chōgokin’s50th anniversary, blooms. In collaboration with Bandai and Cosmic Group, a selection of the boundless Popy/Bandai production, which in 5 decades has generated an unprecedented cultural phenomenon, becoming an absolute benchmark for representing technology and design evolution in the toy industry.
This industry can no longer be confined to children’s products, but it also occupies a high-end sector reserved to an adult and demanding audience that ask for increasingly refined and detailed products, luxury items that regard their naive predecessors with respect and affection.
Throughout his career, Shōji Kawamori hasreceived numerous awards and recognitions for his contribution to the animation industry: his creative approach and his dedication to the art of design keep inspiring generations of artists and animators. His ability to design vehicles and machines integrating artistic and functional elements is admired worldwide. Today, the Master’s influence extends beyond animation, with collaborations spanning the video game and the technology industry, experiences that have made him one of the most influential mecha designers in the Japanese animation landscape. His career, spanning over four decades, has determined a long-lasting impact on pop culture.
The homage that Lucca Comics & Games 2024 made for him, focuses on his influence in the world of mecha design, through the exhibition of toy models of his most popular concepts, starting with the celebrated Valkyrie by Chōjiku Yosai Macross, selected in their historical version produced by Takatoku (1,5 million units sold) and in modern productions branded by Bandai.
