In the area of the mezzanine floor of Fondazione Banca del Monte, Lucca Comics & Games in collaboration with L’ippocampo, presents the experience Dorian Gray: La stanza delle vanità (Dorian Gray: The room of vanities). A Decadent Victorian room will host the festival audience while they discover The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde illustrated by Benjamin Lacombe, who will come back to Lucca from November 1st to November 3rd.

On top of the original artwork, this experience aims to emphasize the rich philological research made by the illustrator to fully comprehend the meanings, the origin of the text and the message the author Oscar Wilde wanted to convey. This novel has a deep connection to the contemporary age, thanks to a crucial theme: vanity that turns into obsession.

In an age where we are in charge of our representation on social media platforms, we tend more and more to show a perfect appearance that is often absurd, to the point of warping and flattening our features, thus making them unnatural. This complex dynamic can lead people to find comfort in their virtual persona, instead of their reflection in the mirror. Wilde already talked about this in 1890.
