The origin of Manga - From Hokusai to modern Mangas

The Japan Area of Lucca Comics & Games this year will celebrate once more the great Japan Culture, with an amazing exhibition experience, designed and curated by the director of the Museo d'arte orientale Mazzocchi, Paolo Linetti, with the help of some of the most experts in the field: “The Origin of Manga - From Hokusai to modern Mangas”.

It will be an exhibition that wants to break the barrier between high culture and pop culture, analysing the path that links the hundreds-of-years-old traditional Japanese illustration of 17th century to the 21st century mangas, through a selection of about 200 works. Among emakis and xylographies, you will get the chance to admire the world-famous Hokusai's Wave.

The exhibition has two main aims. We won’t just modern manga readers to go back to the source of Japanese manga up to the 16th century; but also we want historians and enthusiasts to appreciate the evolution of Japanese illustrations.

That's why you will be able, in certain hours, to participate and choose your guided visit from the origin to modern times, or backwards, starting from the familiar present to discover little by little its nobel predecessors.
