Becoming Mecha

As a premier for Lucca Comics & Games 2019, the Cultural Association EVA IMPACT presents the photography exhibition “Becoming Mecha”, dedicated to the history of Japanese robots.

Through the pictures by the photographer Paolo Cavazza, that depict a selection of mecha toy from the collection of the historian of Modern Mythology Fabrizio Modina, the exhibition explores the relationship between the man – author, the creator – user and the machine – product, tool and final step of human evolution, in a chronological and thematic itinerary that highlights the main robotic icons of the collective imagination.

Starting from “Tetsuwan Atom”, an android resembling a boy who wants to become human,

Becoming Mecha goes from “Tetsujin 28-go” to “Mazinger Z”, from “Combattler V” to “Gundam”, from “Macross” to “Evangelion” and “Darling in the Franxx”.

The project is curated by Ilaria Azzurra Caiazza, Ivan Ricci and Filippo Petrucci - EVA IMPACT.

Moreover, on Friday 1st November 2019, at 5.00 p.m. in the Meeting Room Cappella Guinigi (Japan Town), EVA IMPACT will present “Becoming Mecha - La storia dei robot giapponesi” (Becoming Mecha – The history of Japanese robots), a panel dedicated to a thorough analysis of the fundamental steps of the genre mecha in the Japanese animation.

Following the steps of the photographic exhibition “Becoming Mecha” which has the same name, Ilaria Azzurra Caiazza and Filippo Petrucci (Distopia Evangelion), Alessandro Falciatore (AnimeClick.it), Italo Scanniello (Anime & Manga [ITA]) and Mario Pasqualini (Dimensione Fumetto) will propose an absorbing  chronicle, beginning from Tetsuwan Atom, an android similar to a boy who wants to become human (Becoming Human, theme of LC&G 2019), going from "Tetsujin 28-go" to "Mazinger Z", from "Combattler V" to "Gundam", from "Macross" to "Evangelion", up to "Darling in the Franxx".

Moreover, on Friday 1st November, you will have the opportunity to obtain your membership card and become members of EVA IMPACT at the expositive zone of the Association situated in Chiesa di San Francesco.

The Cultural Association EVA IMPACT, founded in 2016 thanks to an initiative by some authors of the site Distopia Evangelion and other enthusiasts of the animated series, aims to study, analyse and promote "Evangelion" and the related franchise, as well as other works linked to it, such as authors, production studios, themes and its style. Present from the birth of the main national fairs of this field with panels and itinerant exhibitions-tributes, EVA IMPACT is certainly focused on sci-fi animation, but at the same time it explores the nature and the history behind other genres.
